Course Description:

The course presents and discusses the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Model for Coordinated School Health Programs (CSHP) in K-12 schools and seeks to develop leadership skills to assess and implement a CSHP.

Requirements:

Complete tests, E-mail and Virtual Conference Center assignments no later than the date when assigned.  Subscribe to the CHEN listserv by Fri, June 13. For security and confidentiality, all assignments must be e-mailed by the NAU Dana account.

Course objective: At the completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. Explain the eight integrated components of the Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) Model
   (Division of Adolescent and School Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
2. Describe what makes a school healthy in terms of the eight CSHP components.
3. Determine the range of services needed to serve youth using the CSHP model.
4. Describe and discuss important research studies (e.g., 2000 SHPPS) related to a CSHP
5. Describe the barriers to successful implementation of a CSHP and offer potential solutions.
6. Advocate for all eight components of a Coordinated School Health Program
7. Explain the state/national role in CSHP
8. Describe the role of American School Health Association, Healthy People 2010, Centers for Disease
    Control and Prevention, American Cancer Society, and others in promoting CSHP.
9. Evaluate a CSHP in a school
