Assignment One, Critiques of Articles

In the Web Activity of this Topic, you were asked to find, read, and analyze five articles on the WWW. Copy these, and do a written critique of each. Your critique must include the following information:

1. What is the context of the piece of writing? Specifically, what is the purpose, who is the audience, and who is the author?

2. Do the purpose, audience, and author fit together smoothly? Justify and/or suggest improvements in any part of the
document.

3. How effective is the document, judged by the 4 Cs criteria? What specific improvements would you suggest?

Grading Criteria: Critiques
What is the purpose, who is the audience, and who is the author of this technical document? 100 pts. 25 pts.
Do the purpose, audience, and author fit? Make suggestions for improvement 15 pts.
Clarity: Clearly Defined Purpose, Adequate Factual Support for Purpose, Clear and Appropriate Organization, Clear Sentences 15 pts. 50 pts.
Conciseness: Presentation that is long enough to get the job done, Effective Language 15 pts.
Coherence: Logical Patterns, Argumentative Patterns, Other Organizational Forms that create a flow for the document appropriate to audience, purpose, voice 10 pts.
Correctness: Appropriate Use of Standard Formats, Proper Grammer, Mechanics, and Other Conventions 10 pts.
