For this first topic, you need to read chapter 3 pages 86-129 in you textbook. When you are finished your reading, you should be able to answer these questions:




  1. What is the difference between an externalized and internalized behavior? Be able to give at least one example of each.
  2. What are some of the concerns with the current definition of a severe emotional disturbance?
  3. What is the difference between an Type I and a Type II behavior disorder?
  4. What is the prevalence of emotional and behavioral disorders? What factors influence these figures?
  5. How would someone describe an emotional or behavioral disorder from a biological, psychodynamic, psychoeducational, or behavioral theoretical perspective?
  6. What are some of the characteristics of a child with an emotional or behavioral disorder (be able to list at least two for each area listed in your text)?
  7. What are two typical educational interventions for children with emotional or behavioral disorders?
