Can we, as a society, prevent mental retardation? It is a simple question on the face of it. You need to think, however, before you answer. Remember, John F. Kennedy called for efforts to eradicate mental retardation in the early 1960s. Despite his best efforts, this condition continues to exist.

This activity will require you to think about all you have learned in the last two online lessons - "Organic Causes of Mild Mental Retardation"; and "Environmental Causes of Mild Mental Retardation".

1. Is it possible to prevent the occurrence of mild mental retardation? Why?
