Web Research on Developmental Discipline

To complete this assignment successfully, you should:

  1. Read the assignment carefully

1. There is a plethora of research on education. Most of it comes from monitoring the teaching point of view. Another large contibuter to educational research comes from assessing scores and achievement. Find five different research studies or articles about discipline techniques (ERIC may be a quick source). Look for evidence that feelings or ideas of students were included in the material. Write a one minute essay on the material you find, focusing on:

  • point of view - example 4/5 or 80% did not include student perspectives
  • general impression of educational success

2. Search for programs that promote a proactive or student focus. Send the web site to the professor and share it at the Virtual Conference Center.

Suggestions for searches: pro-active, ecological, cooperative learning, multi-age, multi-graded, portfolios, hand-on, constructivist, Rogers, Maslow, A.S. Neill, Colorosa, Kohn. Do not be fooled by labels or names. Some programs call themselves positive or student centered, but are referring to ways to focus on students minding or ways to help teachers feel good about classroom toughness.
