Objective(s): Student will be able to:
1. Identify the bird and learn its name in Navajo and in English.
2. Compare its egg color with other bird's egg color.
3. Identify its habitat its food and other characteristics.
4. Identify body parts and measure them for comparison with other birds. .
Materials/Resources:
Pictures and posters of mocking bird , its eggs, pictures and posters of other birds found in the area, films/video, books, magazines, charts, large paper, rulers, community consultant
Procedures/Activities:
1. Read a book on mocking bird and discuss its body parts, its food, its habitat and other characteristics.
2. Introduce simple vocabulary words: Mocking birds, eggs, fly, large, small, insects, nest, and others that completes the lesson at Kdg. level.
3. Show a video and discuss the content.
4. Make a puzzle out of magazine pictures.
5.Make a comparison chart
6. Invite a community consultant to talk about the general role of the bird in the Diné culture.
7. Learn a song about mocking bird.
