Descriptive Measures

Assignments and Activities §
Descriptive measures are designed to give a single number or range of numbers to help understand a given set of data. The measures are categorized as Measures of Central Tendency, Measures of Dispersion, Measures of Position, and Measures of Shape. You will study a selected number of measures following into the first three of these categories. In addition, you will consider the Empirical Rule. In most cases, you will be able to use Excel to aid you in this process.
Objectives:
The objectives for this topic are:
1. Study the textbook and on-line materials to gain a calculating knowledge
level of descriptive measures.
2. Use Excel to help calculate descriptive measures.
3. Apply descriptive measure calculations to problems in statistics and POM.
