E-mail Assignment: School Health Services

Read the following article (Is it Good for Kids? Helping Kids Create Healthier Communities) before answering the following questions:

Think about what you learned in the text and websites highlighted in the Web Activity. Then reflect on the following questions:

  1. Describe the need for schools to become involved in the delivery of primary health care for children.
  2. What are the essential functions of the school health services and who delivers these services?
  3. How does a school based health center (sometimes called a school clinic) differ from a regular school health program? What is a "school linked" center? Why are school based health centers sometimes controversial?
  4. Assume the role of a school nurse. Describe how you would support the PE teacher, HE teacher, and classroom teacher in addressing the health risk behaviors of youth using tobacco.

In a word processing document, write and save your responses to the questions above.
Then, e-mail to the instructor only the answer to question # 4 and title the e-mail "School Health Services."

Refer to the e-mail assignment grading rubric and guidelines link on the course syllabus.
Download a hard copy of this for quick reference if you have not done so already.

Once you have finished you should:

Go to Topic 7: School Nutrition Services
or
Go back to Topic 6: School Health Services
