"Adults-Only" Trip to Alaska - Summer 2002
Jim and I took a trip to Alaska to celebrate our 10th Anniversary (in the 11th year of our marriage - better late than never!). We flew in and out of Anchorage where we visited a friend of ours (Jennifer Caldwell) who used to live in Flagstaff. Besides taking an awesome cruise in the Prince William Sound, we did some halibut fishing, camping, salmon fishing, and sightseeing at Denali. Although the fishing wasn't that great (I did not catch a single fish!), it was an experience of a lifetime. The cruise was phenomenal! We took a 4 day small ship cruise aboard one of Cruise West's fleet. The ship only held about 70 people and we had a fabulous time seeing some of the Prince William Sound. The first day was spent exploring College Fiord where we saw many beautiful glaciers. We cruised from there to Cordova, Valdez and then back to Whittier where the trip began. We were blessed to see some orcas and a few humpback whales. It was certainly a trip of a lifetime - the small ship cruise experience is an awesome way to see Alaska. We both would love to take the Inner Passage cruise for our 15 or 20th Anniversary!!! We'd also like to take a more relaxed trip with the boys in a few years. We've talked about renting a motorhome and touring different parts of Alaska. Something to save our pennies for.....
