Learning Disabilities
In this the third topic for the Students with Mild Disabilities module,
you will learn about children with learning disabilities (LD). Specifically,
you will examine:
- the major definitions we use,
- the number of children who are eligible for services under this
category,
- the characteristics of children with learning disabilities,
- assessment considerations, and
- current research about the the etiology of learning disabilities
Objectives:
- Be able to operationalize the definition of "learning disabilities"
(i.e., discuss the features of the definition)
- Indicate the number of children with learning disabilities who are attending
public schools.
- Discuss specific assessment considerations when determining if a child
has a learning disability.
- Discuss the characteristics of children with learning disabilities.
- Review current research on the causes of learning disabilities.
