Students with Mild Mental Retardation
In this first topic for the Students with Mild Disabilities module, you
will learn about children with mild mental retardation (MIMR). Specifically,
you will examine:
- the definitions we use,
- the number of children who are eligible for services under this
category,
- the etiology of conditions associated with mild mental retardation,
- assessment considerations, and
- the characteristics of children with mild mental retardation
Objectives:
1. Define "mild mental retardation" disabilities.
2. Indicate the number of children with mild mental retardation who are
attending public schools.
3. Identify and describe the etiology of specific conditions that may
cause mild mental retardation.
4. Discuss specific assessment considerations when determining if a child
has mild mental retardation.
5. Discuss the characteristics of children with mild mental retardation.
